Ukumari Apu

Ukumari Apu is an original creature inspired by the Andean bear and Incan mythology, created for a character design course. “Ukumari” means “bear” in Quechua, while “Apu” refers to the protective spirits of the mountains. Together, they form the “Spirit of the Guardian Bear.” The design combines cultural and natural references, exploring the full creative process of character creation within Concept Art. Its duty is to protect the Andean forests, and its metallic mask— inspired by the Andean cross— symbolizes the union between the earthly and the divine.
